How to Alphabetize a List (Online, Word & Google Docs)
Blog / TOOLS
To alphabetize a list, put each item on its own line and sort from A to Z. An online tool does it instantly.
In Microsoft Word
Select the list, go to Home, click Sort, choose Paragraphs and Text, then Ascending.
In Google Docs
Docs has no built-in sort. Paste the list into Google Sheets and use Data → Sort range, or use an online alphabetizer.
Alphabetizing rules
Library and style guides may ignore 'The' and 'A' at the start of titles. Names are usually sorted by last name.
